The curriculum plan includes a comprehensive program in Reading, Language Arts, and Mathematics. The students are placed in a multi-age group setting. Children work at their own educational level and pace. Progress is monitored routinely to determine mastery of skills. We work for a mastery level of performance in our academics. Assessment
The school utilizes the Brigance Comprehensive Inventory of Basic Skills. We find BCIBS-R to be a valuable resource for our school programs which emphasize individualized instruction and academic levels. The Brigance assessment is very beneficial in creating a personalized education plan. The BCIBS-R is used as a baseline and to monitor students progress.
The Brigance assessment also helps in identifying:
What skills the student has mastered |
What skills the student has not mastered |
Specific and appropriate instructional objectives for the student |
Strengths and weaknesses in academic areas |
Record keeping and a tracking system that is efficient, ongoing and specific |

A standardized testing instrument when needed |

IOWA Testing:
Spring Gate School administers the IOWA Test of Basic Skills. It is an assessment, which includes, but is not limited to, math computation, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and grammar skills. The IOWA Test measures the skills and achievement of students in Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science. The standardized test is given yearly in the spring. Reports are sent to all parents, with a brief explanation of the testing results. The Iowa Test of Basic Skills is given for several reasons:
A.) It gives us information on specific academic skills to assist on remediation of deficit areas.
B.) The staff is able to compare national and standardized test scores with our students scores.
C.) It assists us in being in compliance with our state accrediting agency (AISF) and the McKay Scholarship and Florida Pride Programs of Florida.
